Trade or Invest ?

Last week I wrote an article on Portfolio Construction – Bonds or Stocks where i wrote that instead of using REITs and Stocks, the bulk of my portfolio to create passive income built up over the last few years had been using bonds. At this stage of my life, I wanted to build a substantial portfolio that has lower volatility, more certainty of cash flow and somewhat better risk-adjusted returns. I was also able to borrow against the investment grade bonds to juice up the returns to ~8%. The previous time I wrote another article on credit card –...

Portfolio Construction – Stocks or Bonds?

It is always inspiring to look at Dividend Warrior’s blog. No bullshit and basically he just show you his CDP statement. A lot of bloggers wouldn’t be able to do that and half the time, you wonder if what they posted was true. DW’s portfolio comprise a diversified pool of REITs and blue chip stocks. Stable portfolio that generates a nice compounded return. Congratulations for reaching a new milestone! 👍 How about Mr. IPO’s portfolio? The way in which i constructed my portfolio over the last few years was different DW. I have previously blogged about the bond ladder in...

SRS Portfolio March 2019 & a short trip . . .

How time flies. It’s already end of March! I recently brought my family to Japan, here are some of the highlights of the trip.  This is the view of Hakone from the top of the mountain range.  Sometimes, traveling is like your life. Sweet 👍🏻 Onsen hoping We went hot spring hoping and this is one of the oldest onsen town...

Hyflux – A bet gone wrong

I received the brochure to inform me that my area will be eligible for the “open electricity market” from 1 March. The government first rolled out the program in the western side of Singapore. This booklet served as a reminder about the bet that went wrong – Hyflux. Both referring to myself as well as that of Hyflux. A lot of investors thought they were investing in “water” sector at the desalination plant, but Hyflux was actually betting on the “energy” market when it won the bid for the desalination project at Tuaspring.  According to my friends who are...

SRS Portfolio Update – Jan 2019

SRS Portfolio Blogging on my SRS portfolio is frankly quite boring as the portfolio don’t really change over time. This is a screenshot from my portfolio below using the DBS internet banking log-in. You will see that the cost for Frasers Commercial Trust didn’t really change but the market value went up by quite a bit. That is because i have opted for the dividend-in-scrip. On my own spreadsheet, the cost is actually higher as i accounted for dividend income and re-investment as separate items. SRS Top-up I have also decided to give myself a big angpow of $15,300 for...

Cash back or Air miles ?

I received the online CPF statement in my inbox this week – the yearly statement with colourful charts and breakdown. I blogged about my CPF balance in 2017 here.  CPF is one of the tools which you should use for your own retirement needs. It is almost “risk-free”, hence you should “hack” it to the max.  I am extremely pleased to see the balances in the OA, SA and MA accounts increasing nicely ? and i am pretty sure it will hit $1m by the time i retire. You can and should use it for your retirement planning too....
